Personal Development, Health
and Physical Education
The Personal Development, Health and Physical Education program at Bennett Road School promotes values, skills and attitudes to encourage students to adopt and lead healthy and fulfilling lives. We focus on major health priorities such as student physical activity and fitness, child protection education, drug education and nutrition. Outside education agencies such as the Life Education Unit and Swim School support and supplement our program. PD/H/PE provides the release from face to face for years 2 – 6.
Bennett Road Public School has a long association with the Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA). We have achieved success in a variety of sports at a district, regional and state level.
At a district level Bennett Road competes in both the summer and winter competitions. Students are offered a variety of modified and traditional sports including cricket, softball, volleyball, newcombe ball, tee – ball, Australian Rules Football, touch football and netball. This competitive environment is aimed at fostering positive feelings of success and enjoyment.
Alternatively to PSSA, a home school sport program is also offered. Students participate and use equipment in a variety of sports and demonstrate fun ways of practising skills.
Bennett Road Public School participates in various sporting gala days. These include AFL Paul Kelly Cup, NRL Panther Trophy, NSW cricket Milo Cup and NSW Football. Sporting clinics and guest speakers from local sporting clubs are regularly invited to promote students to participate at club level in weekend competitions.
Participation in active pursuits can be an enjoyable, creative and social outlet that has the potential to build esteem. Our school dance program is collaboratively organised and programmed by an external provider. It develops the ability of students to communicate and express themselves through movement. Students participate in composing, moving and appreciating a range of dance styles.
The school’s gymnastics program promotes initial movement exploration leading to the acquisition of some preliminary skills. Students investigate and succeed in a wide variety of movement experiences and challenges, developing skill, demonstrating control and exploring the ways in which the body can move.
The Active After School Communities Program is offered to students to participate in regular and varied physical education experiences after school. This is aimed at providing the foundation for a lifelong commitment to valuing and leading a healthy lifestyle.
